Introduction to Teaching in Primary Care (ITTPC)
A two-day multi-professional course comprising one taught, face-to-face day and an additional day of personal study.
This course will provide participants with an introduction to the facilitation of student-centred learning. It will include a mix of theory and practical skills that can be applied in the workplace environment. Topics will include learning needs assessment, skills for one to one and small group teaching, giving effective feedback and developing reflective practice. The course will be interactive and multi-professional in order to help promote confidence in facilitating learners from across the healthcare professions.
Who should attend?
We believe that everyone has the potential to become an educator. We therefore welcome all healthcare professionals working in primary and community care settings who wish to gain a taster of educational skills. It is also suitable for those who have been undertaking an educational role who wish to refresh their skills. The course is led by a multi-professional team.
The course will be relevant to healthcare educators wishing to facilitate learning with individuals and groups in their workplace and within Community Education Provider Networks (CEPNs).
The course is currently a requirement for GPs and primary care nurses who wish to teach medical students and for GPs teaching Foundation doctors.
We hope to inspire and enthuse participants and will encourage those who are interested to go on to further professional training in healthcare education e.g. Postgraduate Certificate for Teachers in Primary Care.
A course certificate will be provided following attendance at the taught day and completion of the work for personal study.

However, due to facilitator availability, the demands of the programmes, and the need to secure an even spread of activity throughout the calendar year, this is not always possible .Most courses and programmes are run at least twice per year.
