To sum up

This module has highlighted the importance of:

  1. A structured approach to recruitment and selection which begins with a thorough job analysis and with all selection tasks linked to the person specification
  2. Understanding the legislative framework underpinning recruitment and selection and ensuring that any questions posed do not fall foul of relevant legislation such as The Equality Act, 2010.
  3. Running an effective interview by preparing well in advance of the candidates arriving, posing thoughtfully constructed questions linked to the person specification, rating the answers using a standardized scoring system and making sure all candidates receive post-interview feedback.
  4. Avoiding common interview mistakes through preparation prior to the interview, and focused attention and careful note taking during the interview itself.
