Advanced Supervision Skills course now available

The London Deanery runs a unique programme of hands-on training in the conversational skills needed for good clinical and educational supervision: ‘Conversations inviting change’.

From November 2011 we will be re-launching the programme, offering the following options:

Advanced supervision skills for clinical teachers: This three day course will provide extensive opportunities for small group work as well as theoretical learning.  It will focus particularly on some of the challenges of postgraduate supervision including ‘candid conversations’ with trainees causing concern, and how to impart technical learning while also promoting reflective practice. We expect them to be of particular interest to educational supervisors, medical educators, and senior trainees.  Please click here for further details about the course and future dates.

In addition to the Advanced course, we also have a one-day ‘Essential supervision skills for clinical teachers’ workshop, which offers ‘hands on’ training in the essential conversational skills needed for good supervision.  This course is available to onsultants and GPs, as well as STRs and SASGs with roles in teaching and supervising trainees. Please click here for further details about the course and future dates.

A recent independent academic evaluation of the above programme by a team from Cardiff University highlighted the opportunities it provides for significant changes in people’s understanding and use of supervision.
