Professional Certificate in Supervision Skills for Clinical Teachers
This course provides an opportunity for GP educators, hospital trainers and other health care clinicians to develop their skills in supervision and in teaching supervision to small and large groups. It is open to clinical teachers working in primary or secondary care. We also welcome appraisers,nurses and managers who want to develop supervision skills and find ways to teach these in their own clinical settings.
Content and Methods
- Theoretical reading and presentations
- Small group supervision work
- Opportunities and support to develop teaching skills within the group and in work places
- Giving and receiving feedback on teaching skills
Membership
- Clinicians, educators and managers who have attended at least a one day course at the London Deanery on supervision skills for clinical teachers, or an equivalent workshop or short course
- Other primary and secondary care educators with experience of supervision or systemic and narrative approaches.
Dates and Times
The workshop will meet fortnightly each term on Tuesday afternoons from 2.30pm to 5.30pm. The autumn term will start on Tuesday 18 October 2011, the spring term on Tuesday 24 January 2012 and the summer term on Tuesday 15 May 2012. We ask participants to commit themselves to three terms.
Fees
£300 per term or £750 for three terms. Bursaries may be available for some clinical teachers involved in postgraduate medical education.
